The Travelling Postbox

Walking the length of England from Gretna Green to Portland Bill to raise awareness of loneliness.

How far would you go to feel less alone?

Stu sets off on 19 September. Beyond that, there's no fixed schedule. The postbox doubles as his backpack, so he's carrying all his camping gear, food and clothing as well as 26kg of cast iron, and after a certain number of miles a day, plans have to bend to what's actually possible.

Anyone can join him for an hour, a few miles, a full day or a section. It's an informal, open invitation, not an organised or supervised event. You're responsible for your own safety, fitness and equipment.

There are film screenings along the way too.

The best way to find out where Stu is: follow along on Instagram or Facebook for live, day-to-day updates, or sign up for updates for the bigger milestones.

This isn’t a solo challenge. The heart of The Travelling Postbox is bringing people together to walk, talk and share their stories.

Stu is inviting everyone to join him, whether for an hour, a day or a few miles. Along the way, he’ll listen to people’s experiences, collect stories about loneliness and belonging, and help bring a subject that is too often hidden into the open.

Follow Stu’s social media channels for the latest route information and confirmed meeting points. Plans may change as the walk progresses, so updates will usually be shared around a week in advance. Check before travelling, come as you are and walk with us.

Help every step matter

The Travelling Postbox is raising funds for Head Outside, a registered charity that brings people together through the outdoors, conversation and shared experience.

Your donation will help us create projects that get people talking about loneliness, collect and share important stories, and remind people that they do not have to carry life’s weight alone.

Head Outside is powered by volunteers, so every contribution helps us continue this work and reach more people.
